History

The South Plains Antique Tractor Association (SPATA) has been in existence since 1995. Currently, the club has 175 members from the South Plains, and Panhandle of Texas, as well as New Mexico. We continue to grow each year.

Activities

SPATA gathers on the second Saturday of each month for a meal, business meeting and fellowship. Meetings begin a 5 PM, and members usually arrive early to begin eating. Average attendance at monthly meetings is 40 to 50 members. We attend to business, socialize, and have guest speakers on occasion.

Annual Antique Tractor and Engine Show

We hold our annual antique tractor and engine show the third weekend of October. This event includes parades, tractor games, demonstrations, children's games, fellowship, and a worship service on Sunday. Bake sale items, crafts and memorabilia can be purchased from vender booths. The tractor show is a family event and fun for all ages!

Exhibitors traveled from Kansas, Texas, and New Mexico to participate in the show. This year there were 106 tractors, 3 cars, 24 engines, 6 lawn & garden tractors, 1 trailer and 1 planter. Our show continues to grow each year! View photo slideshow from the tractor show.

Other Events

SPATA members enjoy participating in many parades in Texas and New Mexico to display the heritage of antique tractors. We also participate in the Southwest Farm and Ranch Classic in Lubbock.

Community Service

A large portion of the funds raised from our annual tractor and engine show are donated to the American Museum of Agriculture ($2,000 donation from the 2006 show). We also provide support to the Texas Boys Ranch of Lubbock each holiday season.

Goals for the Future

We hope to increase our community support by growing our annual tractor show, thereby increasing our donation to the American Museum of Agriculture.
